Road Trip '09!

A couple of weeks ago, my aunt Jacie and I loaded up the van (thanks Grandma Helen and Grandpa Jack!) and headed with Sawyer down to see our family in Chico, CA. Turns out Sawyer is a pretty good traveler, and despite a few issues with having to pump our own gas (I still can't believe they just let anybody handle gasoline. We like our to keep our highly flammable liquids under lock and key here in Oregon), Jacie and I made it down there in time for cocktail hour. A sidenote: our extended family maintains that antiquated practice of stopping whatever you are doing at 5 o'clock every evening to sit and have a cocktail. You should try it.

It also turns out that Sawyer is not nearly so fussy if you put him down for a few naps during the day. It also apparently turns out that I am an idiot for not figuring this out earlier.

Fussy? Who, me?

Lauren and I got to lounge poolside with adult beverages. We also got to sneak off to the Sierra Nevada brewery and have adult beverages among adults. It was all very adult-like and fun.

The kids stayed home with Jacie and Bobbi.

The covered patio was pretty sweet. I am thinking I might want one of these.

Since Lauren didn't get scheduled to work for the week after we were there, and because we thought it would be fun to drive 8 hours in a van with a 9 month old and a 2 month old, she and Audrey came back up to Eugene with us. Between the three kids, someone was almost always sleeping, so we were pretty much housebound, but we did venture out to the park a few times. At one point all three kids were screaming in the backseat. Good times. We had a thunder and lightning storm one night and we all sat around drinking beer and I made some brownies while we listened to the rain. Really good times.

Jack whined for "Baby Waudrey" for days after they left. I silently whined for Cousin Lauren, too.

The World...

...through Sawyer's eyes.

I Stink!

Jack's favorite book of all time! And highly recommended by us, too. This is one that you actually don't mind reading over and over again. Or at least you don't mind as much as, say, "Green Eggs and Ham". Just try the damn eggs already!

And let me tell you, it was pretty darn cute watching my two year old walk up to the children's librarian and ask if she had any books about garbage trucks.

Mama Gets Crafty

I dedicate this post to my Grandma Helen and my Aunt Bobbi- the craftiest ladies I know... check out their handiwork at http://www.frizzlebean.etsy.com

I have been attempting to connect with my inner seamstress while still maintaining my sanity and operating this busy household. Thus I have created a few little projects that require little effort but seem to impress people who don't know how to sew.

Here, I'll show them to you. But first let's start with a super silly picture of Mr. No Neck:

A sailboat shirt that I made for Jack, but then we got invited to another kid's birthday party and I was too lazy to go shopping for a present... I guess he will get the next one.

Sawyer is showing his Oregon pride.

Hands down the easiest baby shower gift ever! And really, can you ever have enough cute burp cloths laying around your house? I think not.

Up next, matching pajama sets for the boys. One of these days...

PS: Brent got Sawyer to laugh. There is hope for us all.

Garden, Chickens, Beer, and Babies

Guess who got to eat the season's first strawberry? I think this is quite possibly the goofiest picture we have of Jack. Note the owie on his nose from running full speed into the chicken coop. Ouch.

Here's Brent with a few of his favorite things...

Building a chicken coop is hard work...

And Sawyer, the ever fussy baby. It's a good thing he is so cute.

Weighing In

Here's Sawyer with his little friend Paul, who is one day older (their due date was one day before ours and both boys came two weeks early- I find that funny).  As this picture emphasizes Sawyer is.. shall we say... Heavyset? Big-cheeked? Large and in charge? I could go on... the kid is fat.

We call our kids by a lot of different names and rarely by their actual given ones. Jack has been Tootie since birth and Sawyer has several nicknames as well. But I think we might need to rethink this habit as I overheard Jack yesterday saying to Sawyer, "Stop fussing, Fatso!"

PS:

Dear Jack,
Please stop ramming me in the ankles with your bike. It hurts. But I am glad you figured out how to pedal. Now go play outside.

Dear Sawyer,
Thank you for sleeping through the night (!!). You rock.

Love,
Mama
